The guys over at Carscoop appear to have received details from Mitsubishi Europe concerning the upcoming 2008 Lancer Ralliart and if the price is right, it has the potential to be the small car performance bargain of 2008.

Confirmed specifications include a full-time AWD system with Active Yaw Control and an Active Centre Differential. If that sounds familiar its because it is - think previous generation Evo IX. The engine will be lifted straight from the recently released Evo X albeit detuned to produce 177kW and will be hooked up to Mitsubishi’s six-speed Twin Clutch SST transmission.

Other Ralliart features will include an aluminium bonnet, Recaro front seats, sports steering wheel with paddle shifts for the SST transmission as well as a unique Ralliart front grille insert. Exact details regarding the body style remain a mystery, it may be based on the four-door Lancer or even the yet to be released five-door hatch variant (2005 Lancer Concept Sportback pictured).

In Europe at least the Lancer Ralliart will compete on price with the WRX, VW Golf GTi and Civic Type R, and if that remains unchanged when it reaches Australia (expect that it will) then the Lancer Ralliart will likely be the pick of the crop and a tuners dream car. If cars were coffees then the Lancer Ralliart would be a "Skinny Evo X".
