The new C-Class Mercedes is a remarkable car and takes the C-Class back to its roots. Back to the days when it represented the entry level to fine engineering, great quality, good design and Mercedes robustness. The new C-Class manages all of this in a crisp, modern package that appeals to drivers more than ever before.
Which makes the C-Class the perfect base for a new C-Class coupe. It would have been an opportune time to ditch the old hatch-back/coupe hybrid that we know from the previous C-Class and develop a real coupe, the kind with presence and sex appeal.
Instead, it looks as though we will be seeing the awkward quasi-coupe return as you can see from the spyshot. Due in 2008, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Sportscoupe is expected to be powered by the 170kW 3.0-litre V6 from the C-Class sedan.
The good news is that while the styling may be ‘cut short’ the engine department won’t be, with the 3.5-litre 200Kw V6 expected to be an option. For the power junky, Mercedes-Benz are believed to be considering a 6.3-litre V8 AMG version.
