As roadtests of Ford’s new FG Falcon sedan start to filter through, it is becoming apparent that Ford Australia may just have a hit on their hands. Unfortunately for those wanting a Falcon wagon, the story isn’t quite so sweet – but its not all bad either.

Ford has released details of the new BF Falcon Wagon MkIII, which will go on sale in May alongside the FG Falcon sedan and Ute line-up. While it may not get the FG treatment, the BF workhorse is destined for trade fleet buyers and is a proven and capable package.

"The current Falcon wagon remains an ideal tool of trade vehicle for a broad spectrum of fleet and private buyers alike, who appreciate its large load area and excellent payload capacity," Ford Australia Vice President Marketing and Sales, Mark Winslow said.

The big news is the addition of Dynamic Stability Control as standard equipment on the petrol model.

"The introduction of Dynamic Stability Control, in particular, will see the Falcon wagon continue to fill an important niche in the business sector, coupled with competitive running costs, sharp pricing and the ability to carry large loads.

The new BF Falcon Wagon MkIII will be available in XT specification level with the choice of two engines, the standard 4.0-litre in-line six-cylinder petrol engine or the optional E-Gas dedicated LPG engine. The transmission of choice is the proven four-speed automatic with Sequential Sports Shift (SSS), and while the six-speed ZF would have been a nice option, buyers in this sector would likely baulk at the premium .

In addition to the fitment of DSC, the MkIII gets 'Satin Alloy' accents on the front grille surround, new Goodyear Eagle Excellence tyres, (which are shared with the all-new FG Falcon range) and a new 'MkIII' badge. A new style of alloy wheel will be available as an option on the XT wagon.

On the inside, Ford have added Warm Charcoal carpet in lieu of the previous models Medium Stone and owners get an all-new key fob with integrated flip ignition key.

Recommended retail pricing for the new BF Falcon Wagon MkIII remains unchanged from the MkII model, despite the addition of Dynamic Stability Control as standard equipment on the petrol model, and the above mentioned upgrades.
