2007 Targa Tasmania gets underway

As I reminded everyone last week the 2007 Targa Tasmania is expected to get underway today.

It appears that the events big star is Eric Bana who has taken time out of his busy schedule to pilot his recently refurbished 1974 XB Coupe around the 2007 Targa stages.

Eric competed in the 1996 Targa and managed a credible third in class in the same XB Coupe he is driving in this years event.

"I basically did it back in '96 and vowed I'd do it every year and then my bloody career has gotten in the way," Eric said.

Squaring off against Eric will be the usual protagonists and arguably the Targa’s real stars. Multiple outright winner Jim Richards will be punting a 2007 Porsche 997 GT3 RS. Tony Longhurst should be a contender in the 2007 Subaru Impreza WRX STi C Spec (what is it with Subaru and long names) and the Whites’ (John and Jason) will be back trying to repeat their 2005 outright victory in a Lamborghini Gallardo SuperLeggera.
