1954 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing WITH AMG 6.0L V8?!?

Yeah, you heard me. The classic, the iconic, the hyper-glamorous 1954 300SL gullwing is in the midst of being re-imagined by that most eccentric of car buffs, Nigo, and a modern fire-breathing AMG V8 is on the ingredients list.
Nigo, for those that don’t

Yeah, you heard me. The classic, the iconic, the hyper-glamorous 1954 300SL gullwing is in the midst of being re-imagined by that most eccentric of car buffs, Nigo, and a modern fire-breathing AMG V8 is on the ingredients list.

Nigo, for those that don't know, is the founder of Japanese clothing company A Bathing Ape (BAPE, to those in the know), and his tastes are definitely high-end. Amongst the rest of his tricked-out garage lies a Bugatti Veyron and Rolls-Royce Phantom: both wrapped in his signature camouflage paint scheme.

A 300SL is set to be added to his stable of exotic machinery and all we know is that Nigo has contracted AMG to shoehorn a 6.0 litre V8 under its shapely bonnet. No pics (aside from the above teaser), no other info.

Will he rock the establishment by giving it a camo paint scheme too, or will he exercise some restraint and leave the exterior as Mercedes intended? Looking at what he did to his Veyron (below), we hope it's the latter.

Still, by ripping out the 300SL's slant-six heart we're sure he's already earned the ire of Benz purists everywhere.

We'll keep you posted on this one.
