Subaru's formidable Forester is a trail-blazer in the small SUV segment. It was one of the first to combine light duty off-road capability with sporty on-road handling and the versatility of a small wagon.
For 2016, the Subaru Forester brings new levels of interior refinement, new alloy wheel-designs and restyled front bumper, grille, headlamps and rear LED tail-lights. But it retains the clever AWD capability and robust drivetrains that have such appeal to buyers.
Although the new Forester price is unchanged, in addition to the revisions above, it also comes with a faster steering rack and retuned suspension, with altered spring-rates and damping both front and rear; these changes specially tailored to Australian road conditions.
The 2016 range begins at $29,990 for the 2.0i-L (manual), rising to $49,990 for the powerful and luxuriously-equipped turbo-charged Forester XT Premium auto.
To buy the Subaru Forester, is to buy peace of mind - not only does it have a full 5-Star ANCAP safety rating, but it has a proven robustness and reliability.
There are four drivetrain choices available, the 110kW 2.0i, the larger 2.5 litre petrol 2.5i with126kW, the stout 2.0D turbo diesel with 108kW (and 350Nm), and the very rapid 2.0 litre turbo-petrol 2.0 Forester XT with 177kW. The Subaru Forester XT is capable of hitting 100km/h from rest in just 7.5 seconds.
Transmission choices include a six-speed manual or CVT automatic with stepped ratios.
Inside, the entry-level models to the new Subaru Forester range gain new fabric upholstery, a 3.5-inch colour LCD multi-information display, an auto-up/down passenger window function, Siri voice command compatibility and illuminated vanity mirrors on both driver and passenger sunvisors.
High-grade models like the Forester 2.5i-S (and above) also get a memory function for the powered driver's seat and more generous cushioning in the seat squabs for better comfort and support. Leather-upholstered Foresters also get quilted leather surfaces on the door trims.
There is also extra sound-deadening added to the dashboard, thicker glass and new door seals that help quieten the new and appealing Subaru SUV's cabin.
