Volkswagen Multivan Highline 132 TDI
People-movers are in some ways the cardigans of the car world. They're functional and practical but far from aspirational for anyone without children or lots of friends.
So for Volkswagen, the prospect of selling a people-mover with a price tag approaching $80,000 might seem like wishful thinking. After all, the average family with a small footy team of offspring presumably doesn't have loads of money left over to splash on transport.
Then again, the Multivan isn't about budget-priced propulsion; for that Volkswagen offers the longer Caravelle, with nine seats, or there are myriad cheaper kid-carriers.
The seven-seat Multivan is instead a premium-priced offering designed to appeal equally to tour operators and families. It's part of the recently updated Volkswagen T5 van range that also encompasses the longer Caravelle and work-oriented Transporter load-lugger. It's a vast range, which covers a price spread from $36,490 for the entry-level Transporter to $77,990 (plus on-road costs) for the leather-clad Multivan with all-wheel-drive.
