2007 Peugeot 407 Coupe review: Quick drive
This is the follow-up to the delicately styled 406 Coupe.
For generation two, Peugeot obviously decided much bigger was better. Overall length climbs by 200 mm, width by 88 mm, height by 36 mm and wheelbase by 25 mm.
Bold styling statements include the long nose, huge wheel arches and sweeping C-pillar. The doors are massive and quite hard to open on a hill.
Inside, the space evaporates. This is a 2+2 but rear seating is pathetic. Considering the size of the car and the 400-litre boot, it's puzzling that there's limited cabin space.
This entry model is powered by an uninspiring 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine that serves under the bonnet of every brand of French car. In this case it can be mated to either a six-speed manual or six-speed auto.
Dynamically the 407 Coupe is not as capable as some of its Peugeot predecessors. Active dampers and computer-controlled steering both need some fine tuning for Australia's rough conditions.
As has become Peugeot's custom, the value story is very strong: dual front, side, curtain and steering column airbags are standard, along with stability and traction control, ABS with EBD and BAS, dual climate control, heated and powered seats, leather upholstery, park controls and bi-xenon headlights.
