2006 Citroen C5 2.0 16V review: Quick drive
The French do their best to maintain their quirky reputation with the roomy C5 Estate
The French do their best to maintain their quirky reputation with the roomy C5 Estate.
Although there are also turbo-diesel and V6 petrol offerings, this 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol version is the cheapest, starting at $40,990.
That price includes four-speed automatic, leather trim, powered front seats, airbags, stability and traction control, ABS, climate control, cruise control, 16-inch alloy wheels and park distance control.
A key feature of all C5 Estates is the suspension system that allows the ride height to be lowered to aid loading and hitching a trailer.
Other neat touches include a separately opening tailgate window and reversible load area floor mat. Luggage space is 563 litres, growing to 1.6 cubic metres with the seat folded.
Although hardly a sporting drive or fireball in performance terms, the C5 does deliver economy with a claimed 8.6 L/100 km fuel use figure on premium fuel. Greenvehicleguide.gov.au gives it a less-impressive three stars (out of five) for emissions.
Crash safety offers great numbers, with the independent European New Car Assessment Program giving the C5 five stars.
