Tesla slashes Model S, Model X pricing in Australia
Cuts of up to $80,000 have been handed down across the Tesla range, as the EV manufacturer sharpens its pencil around the world.
Tesla has cut prices across its Australian range, with top-of-the-line P100D variants seeing reductions of more than $80,000.
Starting at the lower end of the range, the Model S 'Standard Range' is now listed at $115,600 before on-road costs or $135,390 drive-away on the Tesla website.
Moving up to the 'Long Range', you'll pay $120,700 before on-roads or $140,050 drive-away, while the P100D with Ludicrous Mode has been listed at $136,900 before on-road costs or $164,465 drive-away.
There are savings across the range, but the biggest come at the top of the range. That P100D with Ludicrous Mode previously had a drive-away sticker of around $250,000 drive-away depending on options, for a price cut of $85,500. Wow.
Moving to the Model X, the Long Range is now listed at $127,200 before on-roads or $151,225 drive-away, jumping to $142,000 before on-roads or $171,425 drive-away for the Ludicrous-equipped model. Those cuts are very similar to those handed down to the Model S.
As for where the cuts will come from? Tesla announced last week it'll be ending its retail sales operations and instead selling online exclusively, as it moves to bring the US$35,000 Model 3 into production.
