Suzuki has ramped-up the ‘green’ appeal of its light Swift range, adding a new super-efficient engine to the line-up from next year.
Customers in various markets will soon be able to opt for a new ‘Dualjet’ (twin fuel injectors) version of the existing 1.2 litre four-cylinder engine, improving fuel consumption by 16 percent.
The current 1.2 litre unit in the UK produces 69kW and 118Nm while returning a fuel figure of 5.0 l/100km on the UK testing cycle in the manual-equipped three- and five-door models.
That already-low fuel figure becomes just 4.2 l/100km with the new Dualjet engine (down 0.8 l/100km) while power and torque are altered slightly to 66kW/120Nm.
Suzuki has also broken through the 100g/km-barrier with its new Dualjet engine - albeit only just - with an official CO2 output of 99g/km.
This means no Vehicle Excise Duty for UK customers, which Suzuki claims is worth £175 (AU$308) per year in savings to a customer travelling the average annual distance.
The new engine is accompanied by altered gear ratios and a stop/start system, which are also partly responsible for the improved economy.
