Why we're driving it
Skoda updated its Yeti SUV range earlier this year, giving it a refreshed look and adding the new 90TSI to the line-up – and effectively scrapping the 118TSI model.

The Yeti has been an accomplished all-rounder for several years – and the latest model packs more value. Standard fare in the latest variant extends to front and rear parking sensors, a reversing camera, fog lights and automatic headlights, eight-speaker stereo, five-inch touchscreen, push button start, 17-inch alloy wheels and climate control. The Yeti is a surefooted device on the road, with light, predictable steering and outright grip and poise through corners. The 1.4-litre petrol is a perky unit, with a linear power delivery and quick response, a factor partly attributed to the snappy and efficient seven-speed automatic. Internal proportions are mostly generous, particularly in head room. Standard rear air vents and 16-inch full-size spare wheel are both redeeming features.
Dislikes
Given its SUV orientation, the Yeti’s Achilles heel is its relativly small 321-litre boot, which is both shallow and narrow. The seven-speed auto is still prone to stumbling on take-offs and the engine requires premium unleaded fuel. The ride, while excellent for corners, isn’t as cosseting over sharp bumps as some rivals. New look is less confronting but still polarises opinion. Resale value is only average.
Would I buy one?
It’s hard to avoid the white elephant in the room here – the Yeti isn’t the prettiest SUV doing the rounds. But it is comfortable and capable, and if you’re willing to overlook its cosmetic misgivings, would make a pleasant daily drive.
