Removable batteries are the future for this electric microcar maker
A Spanish company has unveiled its first fully-electric vehicle – and, both variants in the line-up include interchangeable batteries.
Barcelona-based company, Silence, has revealed the 'SO4' – an electric quadricycle fitted with removable batteries.
A company best known for their e-scooters, the S04 is its first fully-electric vehicle to hit the market. Measuring 2.33m long and 1.56m wide, the two-seater compact EV is available in two variants – the L6e and the L7e.
The L6e packs a 6kW motor paired to a 5.6kWh battery, and has a top speed of 45km/h. It can be driven by those carrying a simple AM moped license, which is most common amongst younger driver's in European counties.
Offering more power, the L7e holds a larger 14kW motor, 11.2 kWh battery and has a top speed of 90km/h. A standard car driver’s license is required for this variant.
In both models the batteries can be removed and switched for ones readily charged – available at Silence exchange stations. The company offers a subscription to its customers at approximately $AU30 dollars per month.
The cabin is minimalistic with standard features such as electric windows, air conditioning and ABS, while keyless entry is available via the owner's smartphone.
Designed, developed and manufactured in Barcelona, the base S04 starts at just over $AU11,500 dollars.
