Porsche 919 tribute tour takes on New York City – video
Farewelling a hybrid beast, as Porsche swings focus to Formula E
Porsche might not be part of the World Endurance Championship anymore, but it hasn't locked the 919 Hybrid away in a shed. Along with the 919 Hybrid Evo's lap-record breaking antics, a regular 919 Hybrid has proven its versatility, lapping New York as part of its farewell tour.
After its withdrawal from the World Endurance Championship (WEC), Porsche was left with a half-developed race car. Rather than binning all that hard work, the engineering team decided to turn one example into the ultimate one-lap beast, unrestrained by stifling regulations.
It also hung onto a 'regular' 919 for a farewell tour – and that's the car pictured here. Power comes from a hybrid system consisting of a V4 petrol engine making 373kW and an electric motor making 298kW, while its previous pilots include Mark Webber and Neel Jani.
