Victoria Police manhunt underway after speed camera car attacked

A police investigation is underway to identify a group of men who allegedly smashed a covert speed camera car in Melbourne's north.

Police are appealing for information from the public following an attack on a mobile speed camera car which resulted in the operator being treated for injuries.

Victoria Police allege a group of men attacked a mobile speed camera car on 5 January 2024 at approximately 12:30am, jumping on the vehicle and breaking windows with rocks.

The 36-year-old operator was able to drive away from the scene, and was treated for cuts sustained in the attack.

It's believed the blue SUV had been parked on Nicholson Street in Coburg when the incident occurred.

Police have released images taken from the vehicle's dashcam in an attempt to identify the masked offenders, and have asked anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or by clicking here.

Mobile speed camera cars have been the subject of targeted attacks in recent years, with windows and equipment smashed, and one vehicle being rammed multiple times in Melbourne's north.
