2022 Polestar 2 BST Edition 270 revealed, not for Australia
Volvo electric-car spin-off Polestar has upgraded its debut electric car with Ohlins suspension, larger wheels, more power and a sportier look. Sadly, the new edition isn't for Australia.
Polestar has revealed its rival for the Tesla Model 3 Performance electric car, the hardcore 2022 Polestar 2 BST Edition 270 – but it’s not coming to Australia.
Just 270 of the special-edition Polestar 2 electric cars will be built, adding more power, sharper dynamics and a unique look to Polestar’s debut mass-produced model.
However, all of the 270 cars are destined for Europe, North America and China – all but ruling out an Australian launch.
Marketed under the Polestar Engineered tuning division – a name applied most recently to flagship plug-in hybrid Volvos – the Polestar 2 BST Edition 270 is based on the ‘Beast’ prototype revealed at last year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK.
Upgrades over a standard Long Range Dual Motor model include revised two-way Ohlins manually-adjustable dampers, a 25mm-lower ride height, a front strut bar, and 20 per cent stiffer springs.
New 21-inch matte black alloy wheels fill the arches – inspired by the earlier Polestar 1 coupe – wrapped in 245/35R21 Pirelli P Zero tyres developed specifically for the Polestar. The four-piston Brembo brakes currently bundled into an optional Performance Pack remain.
The BST Edition 270 receives the Long Range Dual Motor variant’s $AU1600 performance software upgrade as standard, which ups outputs to 350kW/680Nm (from 300kW/660Nm) for a 4.4-second 0-100km/h time.
While that’s 0.3 seconds quicker than the standard 300kW Polestar model, it’s more than a second off a Tesla Model 3 Performance’s 3.3-second claim.
Visual upgrades to the car include body-coloured side skirts, bumpers and wheel arches, gloss black side mirrors, and ‘Swedish gold’ accents on the brake calipers, dampers, wheel valve caps and seat belts.
Buyers can choose between Thunder (grey) and Snow (white) exterior colours, with a full-length matte black stripe available as an option, along with a full ‘Battleship Grey’ satin wrap by 3M.
Production of the Polestar 2 BST Edition 270 is due to begin in mid-2022 – in other words, imminently – ahead of first overseas deliveries (but not in Australia) in late 2022.
