The hottest version yet of Opel's diminutive Corsa hits Europe this week, dubbed Corsa OPC Nurburgring Edition.
Building on the success of the Opel Performance Centre's already-hot Corsa OPC hatch, the Nurburgring Edition sees power boosted from the regular model's 143kW to a whopping 156kW.
With enhancements that include 100-octane optimisation, a new ECU, a new turbocharger and an upgraded exhaust system, torque is also increased to 250Nm - up to 280Nm when using an overboost function.
That's Golf GTI-rivalling power, in a hatch only slightly larger than the Volkswagen Polo.
The Corsa OPC Nurburging Edition is only slightly quicker than the Golf GTI however, hitting 100km/h in 6.8 seconds. Top speed is listed at 230km/h.
Other upgrades include a mechanical multi-plate LSD, limiting wheelspin in corners. The chassis has also benefited from some attention, gaining a lowered ride height and new Bilstein springs and dampers.
There's also a Brembo-sourced lightweight front brake package, with assistance from ABS, Traction Control and Electronic Stability Control.
The Corsa OPC NE gains 18-inch forged aluminium wheels, a front lip spoiler, stainless-steel dual exhaust tips and Recaro seats.
Australia
While the Opel brand has been confirmed for a 2012 Australian launch - including the tiny Corsa (sold in previous generations as the Holden Barina) - it remains to be seen if any OPC packages will be seen on our roads.
