Nissan Australia customers warned following cyberattack

Nissan customers have been told to keep an eye out for "unusual or scam activities" after the car company's systems were hacked.

A notice on the Nissan Australia website has confirmed the company has suffered a "cyber incident" – warning customers their personal information may have been accessed.

It's understood the online attack affected Nissan's systems in both Australia and New Zealand, with a warning that systems at Nissan dealerships may have been impacted by the incident.

"Nissan is working with its global incident response team and relevant stakeholders to investigate the extent of the incident and whether any personal information has been accessed," a notice on the company's website states.

"Nissan has also notified the Australian Cyber Security Centre and the New Zealand National Cyber Security Centre.

"While the extent of the incident is still under investigation, Nissan encourages its customers to be vigilant across their accounts, including looking out for any unusual or scam activities."

When the cyberattack occurred and the extent of the hack is not clear, however Drive understands the notice has been on the car maker's local website since at least Tuesday.

"Nissan is working to restore its systems as soon as possible and will continue to provide updates by its website available via nissan.com.au and nissan.co.nz," the statement continues.

"Nissan thanks you for your understanding during this process, and asks that you have patience with us and our staff while we do our best to work through these issues."

Drive has contacted Nissan for more information regarding the attack, and this story will be updated with its response.
