New Kia Telluride SUV revealed

South Korean brand has unveiled its new large SUV concept at the 2016 Detroit motor show.


Kia has whipped the covers off its new seven-seat SUV, dubbed Telluride, at the 2016 Detroit motor show.

The large SUV is an attempt for the brand to push in to the luxury SUV market in the US.

The new Telluride would sit above the existing Sorento at the pinnacle of the brand's SUV range.

Styled for the American market the Telluride features a boxy exterior with a larger version of the brand's tiger nose rectangular grille, flared fenders, the concept also features rear suicide doors that open in opposing directions from the front doors.

The concept also features large 22-inch alloys, LED headlights, large scoops in the hood and dual exhaust tips.

To accommodate seven passengers the Telluride is laid out in a non-traditional 2+2+3 layout, with the middle rows folding almost flat.

The four front passenger seats feature smart sensors which capture the passengers health information., as well as a middle row centre console touchscreen that allows rear passengers to select their choice of available media.

For the first time Kia has used 3D printed components in its new concept's dashboard, door panels and steering wheel.

The Telluride has replaced the starter button with a fingerprint activated push start button.

A 3.5-litre petrol engine is coupled with an electric motor with a combined power output of 298kW and puts power through all four wheels.

There are no plans on bring a production version of the Telluride to Australia.
