Mitsubishi is planning at least two new sedans built on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s latest ‘CMF’ architecture, but it remains unclear if a new Lancer will be among them.
Speaking with TMR in April, Mitsubishi boss Osamu Masuko appeared to confirm that the carmaker had locked in a plan for the next Lancer, but new reports suggest that a decision is still to come.
According to industry paper Automotive News, first cab off the rank will be a new midsized model - possibly a new ‘Galant’, last seen here as the locally-produced 380 - based on the Korean-built Renault Latitude.
The new midsizer will reportedly be aimed specifically at the US, a market that Mitsubishi was previously expected to exit.
As for the Lancer, a new small Mitsubishi is expected to be built on the CMF platform that already underpins the new Nissan Qashqai and will appear beneath the next Renault Megane.
A production schedule for that new global Mitsubishi has yet to be locked in, however, and a launch date is yet to be confirmed.
