Mitsubishi Triton prices rise by up to $8750, more stock due mid-year

The RRP for the Mitsubishi Triton ute range has increased by between $500 and $2450, but drive-away deals are up to $8750 – or 17 per cent – dearer than two years ago.

The Mitsubishi Triton is the latest ute to receive significant price rises in the wake of severe stock shortages and increased customer demand.

Recommended retail prices for 2022 examples of the Mitsubishi Triton are up by between $500 and $2450.

The price increases are higher on the more expensive models; automatic transmission models are $2250 dearer than equivalent manual variants.

Although the Mitsubishi Triton remains at the more affordable end of the mainstream ute market, drive-away prices have increased markedly compared to two years ago – up by as much as $8750, depending on the model.

The popular Mitsubishi Triton GLX+ double cab 4x4 automatic was as low as $38,990 drive-away in May 2020 (taking into account a $1500 discount on offer at the time).

Today, the Mitsubishi Triton GLX+ double cab 4x4 automatic is listed at $47,740 drive-away – an increase of $8750, or 17 per cent, in less than two years.

It’s a similar story with the Mitsubishi Triton GLS double cab 4x4 manual. Two years ago it was as low as $42,290 drive-away (taking into account a $1500 discount at the time).

Today, Mitsubishi Triton GLS double cab 4x4 manual is listed at $50,990 drive-away – an increase of $8700 compared to the May 2020 price.

The top-of-the-range Mitsubishi Triton GSR 4x4 automatic with roller shutter cover (pictured above) was as low as $53,490 drive-away (taking into account a $1500 discount at the time).

Today, the Mitsubishi Triton GSR 4x4 automatic with roller shutter cover is listed on Mitsubishi’s website for $61,040 drive-away – an increase of $7550 since May 2020.

While automotive parts shortages and shipping costs have played a role in the recent increase in vehicle prices, industry sources say the forces of supply and demand are also key factors.

Not only have RRPs risen sharply over the past two years, car companies are no longer offering hidden bonuses or generous fleet discounts because of the scarcity of vehicles.

It means, in reality, the price rises are even higher than what the RRPs or drive-away deals indicate – because actual transaction prices are higher than they were two years ago.

The price rises on the Mitsubishi Triton coincide with running changes for the 22.5 Model Year.

Upgrades include a 360-degree camera on the flagship Mitsubishi Triton GSR – and some lower grade models gain Apple Car Play and Android Auto via a 7-inch touchscreen (technology that was previously only available on dearer variants).

However, the rock-bottom cheapest models in the revised Mitsubishi Triton line-up maintain an old-school AM/FM radio with Bluetooth – and still lack Apple Car Play and Android Auto.

The Mitsubishi Triton GLS Deluxe package – available on automatic variants of the GLS dual cab pick-up – includes leather appointed seat trim, power adjustment for the driver seat, heated front seats, leather inserts in the door trims, and a 360-degree camera.

The Mitsubishi Triton GSR with the tan orange interior option adds tan orange leather-appointed highlights on black leather-appointed seats, lack leather-appointed door trims with orange stitching, tan orange console box and knee pad.

The black leather-trimmed steering wheel, gear shifter, and park brake lever also have tan orange stitching.

Meantime, the Mitsubishi Triton GSR Roll Top tonneau cover pack includes:

  • Black Roll Top Tonneau Cover with Sports Bar adaptor kit
  • Black Sports Bar
  • Under Rail Tub Liner
  • Cargo Tie Down Kit
  • Front and Rear Carpet Mats
  • Tail Gate Assist
  • Tail Gate Lock

Engine power is unchanged on petrol and diesel models.

As before, the base model Mitsubishi Triton GLX Single Cab Chassis 4x2 is powered by a 2.4-litre petrol four-cylinder engine (94kW/194Nm) paired with a five-speed manual transmission (11.4L/100km).

All other variants of the Mitsubishi Triton are powered by a 2.4-litre turbo diesel four-cylinder engine (133kW/430Nm), with a choice of 4x2 or 4x4, six-speed manual, or six-speed automatic transmissions.

The average fuel consumption claims on diesel variants range from 7.8L/100km to 8.6L/100km, depending on model grade and transmission.

As with all new cars, real-world consumption will vary according to vehicle load and driving conditions.

All price rises for the new Mitsubishi Triton – from 1 April 2022 – are listed below, excluding on-road costs such as dealer delivery, registration, and stamp duty charges.
