Mitsubishi's new Mirage hatch has made its Japanese market debut this week, ahead of its early 2013 Australian launch.
The international rollout for the new Mitsubishi kicked off in Thailand earlier this year, following its concept unveiling in 2010 as the brand's new offering in the light-car segment.
Depending on the market, power for the Mirage is provided by two 1.0 and 1.2 litre three-cylinder petrol options, both featuring Mitsubishi's MIVEC technology and a stop/start system.
All models are equipped with Mitsubishi's INVECS-III CVT automatic transmission, and also feature lightweight construction and low rolling-resistance tyres.
The Japanese model will offer three trim grades, known simply as E, M and G, with the mid-level and top-spec models featuring Eco Drive Assist and an AS&G start/stop system.
While also benefiting from the same lightweight construction and low rolling-resistance tyres fitted to all Mirage models, the M and G models see fuel consumption drop to 3.6 l/100km for the 1.0 litre models.
In 1.2 litre form, Mitsubishi promises fuel consumption figures of around 4.3 l/100km.
Mitsubishi says that the Mirage models featuring the 1.0 litre engine and fuel-saving technology is the most fuel-efficient car in Japan that is not a hybrid or EV.
