Mercedes-Benz Begins Teasing New CLS

The 2017 LA Auto Show will play host to the reveal of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS. Before the covers officially come off, Benz has started building interest via teaser images.

Although there’s not too much to see just yet, the exterior image gives an idea of how the CLS will wear the brand’s new ‘Sensual Purity’ design themes including a grille styled to look like AMG’s Panamericana front end, but without the performance division’s vertical slats.

The single eyebrow-style LED lighting signature from the current-generation car remains, but has been tweaked to follow the new inverted headlight shape.

The interior doesn’t reveal any major surprises with with the dual-display widescreen instrument and infotainment screen layout from cars like the E-Class and S-Class making its way to the CLS.

In line with the CLS’ more sporty position in the range a gloss carbon fibre dash inlay and red-accented air vents also feature in the new cabin.

Although Mercedes-Benz has yet to reveal the car in profile (hold tight, it shouldn’t take too long) insider info confirms that the flowing low-set roof that defined the first two generations will again appear on the third-generation car.

Crisp lines are off the agenda as part of the Sensual Purity design movement though, with a more flowing form and subtle bodywork bulges set to define the new model when it is revealed.

Under the skin, the CLS will be underpinned by a mechanical set closely related to the current E-Class, but with power coming from Mercedes’ new family of inline six-cylinder and four-cylinder engines.

At the head of the range, a V8-powered Mercedes-AMG CLS63 will hold the flagship title while a new CLS53 model with a turbocharged six-cylinder engine and hybrid assistance is also set to appear.

More information and additional images are set to surface in the lead up to the Los Angeles Auto Show which starts at the end of November.
