McLaren’s drip-feed of information ahead of the Geneva Motor Show continues with the British sports car specialist announcing a new 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 will power the second generation Super Series car.
Power and torque figures are still officially under wraps, but McLaren has offered some key performance metrics, including a 0-200 km/h sprint of 7.8 seconds and a standing quarter mile time of just 10.3 seconds.
To put that into perspective, the 650S achieves an offical 8.4 seconds sprint to 200 km/h while the limited edition 675LT coupe released in 2015 managed a 7.9 seconds dash.
The new engine wears an M840T designation, continuing the naming strategy of the current 3.8 litre M838T, which breaks down to 8-cylinder, 3.8-litre and Turbocharged. At this stage McLaren has refrained from referring to the engine as ‘all-new’ meaning the M840T will likely trace its origins back to the Ricardo-developed 3.8-litre unit, albeit with some serious revisions.
