Mazda 2: simplified Sport range offers increased value
A refreshed Mazda 2 range is now on sale in Australia, offering a simplified two-variant line-up with new features and improved value.
Mazda Australia's new Neo Sport grade supersedes the standard Neo as the entry-level model and the Maxx Sport replaces both the mid-level Maxx and high-grade Genki as the new top-spec model.
The Mazda 2 Neo Sport retains the Neo’s pricing ($15,790 five-speed manual, $17,440 four-speed auto), while the Mazda 2 Maxx Sport undercuts the old Maxx by $760 ($16,930 manual, $18,580 auto).
The Neo Sport carries over the Neo’s equipment list and adds 15-inch alloy wheels.
The Maxx Sport has been given a Genki style makeover, gaining fog lights, chrome exhaust outlet, a leather-bound manual gearshift knob, and red stitching on the seats and leather-wrapped steering wheel.
Climate control is also now standard along with a trip computer and ambient temperature display in the instrument cluster.
The 16-inch alloys and automatic headlights and wipers previously standard on the Genki have not filtered down to the Maxx Sport spec.
Two new colours – Jet Black and Blue Reflex, both first seen on the new Mazda 6 – take the number of options on the updated Mazda 2’s palette to eight.
The six-year-old Mazda 2 is Australia’s top-selling city car this year, commanding a 12.3 per cent share of the segment ahead of the second-placed Toyota Yaris.
