Margot Robbie races Nissan BladeGlider around Monaco circuit

Radical electric car to be displayed at Geneva motor show.

Nissan has enlisted the help of Aussie actor Margot Robbie to help spruik its electric technology.

The Wolf of Wall Street star was shown driving the radical three-seat BladeGlider concept car around the Monaco street circuit.

Nissan first debuted the BladeGlider at the 2013 Tokyo motor show with a promise to put it into production, but the plan was abandoned after a legal battle.

However, the project was resurrected to display a promotional prototype in Rio de Janeiro during the 2016 Olympic Games.

The prototype is powered by dual electric motors that combine for 200kW and 707Nm, and can propel the wedge-shaped sports car from 0-100km/h in a claimed 5.0 seconds along with achieving a top speed of 190km/h.

Robbie is also shown initiating a drift mode in the BladeGlider, a system that delivers power to individual rear wheels and is a feature on current cars like the Ford Focus RS.

A wider rear track gives the prototype a futuristic-looking arrow shape, which allows for better aerodynamics and handling stability according to Nissan. Two rear-opening dihedral doors flank the racer and add to its radical appearance.

Inside, the prototype features an unconventional three-seat layout with one seat at the front and two at the rear, while the steering wheel also has a digital display that projects driver functions and information such as battery levels.

The Japanese car maker is using the BladeGlider prototype as an example of what future technologies – including electric power and autonomous driving - Nissan can implement in its future vehicle line-ups, the first of which could be seen on the new Nissan Leaf which is set to have Nissan's ProPilot autonomous driving technology.

Nissan will show the BladeGlider at the 2017 Geneva motor show in March.
