Lexus has added 21,750 vehicles to its recall list in Australia for models affected by the ongoing Takata airbag saga.
All models are from the carmaker’s IS range, and each is subject to the same inflator issues as other Takata casualties.
The problem centres around the front airbag’s inflator casing on the passenger side which could rupture as the airbag deploys.
Should this occur, metal fragments could strike the vehicle’s occupants, resulting in injury or even death. However, there have been no reported cases of this nature for Lexus IS models in Australia to date.
The model breakdown is as follows: 410 examples of the IS F, 1140 for the IS 250C, 1250 examples of the IS 350 and the bulk of the recalls are for the IS 250 variant with a tally of 18,950.
