Lamborghini Countach named Britain’s most popular car poster
The iconic Italian supercar adorned the walls of one in five people according to a new survey.
The Lamborghini Countach has been voted Britain’s most popular car pin-up of all time.
Organisers of The British Motor Show canvassed car lovers throughout Great Britain, and the Marcello Gandini-designed Countach came out on top, with one in five respondents revealing they’d adorned their walls with a poster of the iconic 1980s supercar.
The Countach edged out fellow ’80s poster cars, the Ferrari Testarossa and Porsche 959, to claim the top spot.
While the data gathered may not be exactly empirical, it’s hard to argue against the Countach’s status as the poster car of the era. The wedge-shaped supercar epitomised the excess of the 1980s; its outlandish styling just made for bedroom walls the world over.
One popular poster of the era, depicting an airbrushed black Countach, sold so many copies for its British publisher, Athena, that the artist commissioned to create the poster, Keith Harmer, bought himself a real Lamborghini Countach with the proceeds.
