Lamborghini builds 10,000th Urus SUV
The phenomenal global growth in SUV sales has passed another significant milestone – thanks to a supercar company many thought would never build such a vehicle.
Iconic Italian car maker Lamborghini has built its 10,000th Urus SUV.
The landmark vehicle was ordered by a Russian customer and painted Nero Noctis matte black.
It is fitted with the optional carbon fibre package and has a two-tone interior in black and orange.
The Urus was unveiled by the prestigious Italian manufacture in December of 2017, and official launched in July 2018.
It is powered by a twin-turbo V8 that produces 478kW and launches the car from 0 to 100kmh in a claimed 3.2 seconds.
It shares a platform with other VW Automotive Group SUVs including the Audi Q7, Bentley Bentayga, Porsche Cayenne, and Volkswagen Touareg.
The car has a claimed top speed to 305kmh.
In 2018 Lamborghini delivered 1761 Urus SUVs to customers, and in 2019 they delivered 4,962.
So far in 2020 Lamborghini has sold more than 3000 examples of the Urus – despite the coronavirus crisis and a global slowdown in car sales – and at the current rate could eclipse 6000 deliveries by the end of the year.
The runaway success of the Urus, in line with the growing popularity of SUVs worldwide, means the model now accounts for the majority of Lamborghini sales.
In 2019 the Urus accounted for 61 per cent of cars sold by the company.
It is so far, however, only the third best-selling Lamborghini of all time.
Between 2003 and 2013 approximately 10,574 Lamborghini Gallardo supercars were built.
Since being introduced in 2014, approximately 14,022 Lamborghini Huracán supercars have been built.
