Kiwis build a musical Mini

BMW-owned brand’s New Zealand arm attaches 300 harmonicas to a Mini Clubman for a music video with a difference

Mini New Zealand has launched a viral video that's bound to make some noise in the car world.

The antipodean subsidiary of the BMW-owned brand has attached more than 300 harmonicas to a Mini Clubman to make an interactive music video that aims to get web-savvy younger buyers on board.

The wind instruments are placed strategically over the car - including seven in the grille, two in the bonnet scoop and four on each wheel - in an attempt to generate a unique sound as the car passes through the air.

A 45-second YouTube clip shows the harmonica-clad Clubman driving in several different situations and emitting a range of different sounds. We can only assume what impact a few locusts would make to the musicality of the car.

The clip has been created as a marketing ploy for the New Zealand arm of Mini, and a website has been set up to allows browsers to make their own 'Carmonica' clip.

No word on different the car is to drive, but one thing's for sure - it suffers terribly from wind noise.
