Hyundai Ioniq 6 electric car gets price cut, discounts of up to $12,000
The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is due to receive a $5000 to $10,500 discount – in addition to $1500 to $2500 cut to the regular price – to clear nine months' worth of stock of soon-to-be-superseded 2023 models.
Run-out stock of the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 electric sedan will this weekend be up to $12,000 cheaper than it was last month as part of discounts intended to clear 600 cars in stock nationwide.
Recommended retail prices across the Model Year 2023 (MY23) Ioniq 6 range have been cut by $1500 to $2500, ahead of the arrival of an updated 2024 Ioniq 6 line-up which is available to order now.
And for four days starting this Friday, the two most expensive Hyundai Ioniq 6 model variants will receive a further discount of between $5288 and $10,500 off the recommended retail price.
The total savings are up to $12,000 (or 18 per cent) on the middle-of-the-range Ioniq 6 Techniq, $5288 on the top-of-the-range Epiq, and $2500 on the Dynamiq.
Hyundai Australia says there are approximately 600 new MY23 Ioniq 6s in dealers nationwide – which equates to about nine months' worth of stock, at the current rate of about 65 to 75 deliveries per month.
The company's online stock search tool shows most vehicles available are the two variants which are due to receive the significant discounts – the all-wheel-drive Techniq and Epiq – rather than the entry-level, rear-wheel-drive Dynamiq.
The price cut – and hefty discounts – come as the Hyundai Ioniq 6 is outsold by the Tesla Model 3 by 22 to one, and the Polestar 2 by three to one.
Since the first examples were registered in February 2023, Hyundai has reported 468 Ioniq 6 electric sedans as sold in Australia, to the end of October.
Available from Friday 24 November to Monday 27 November 2023, the limited-time offer coincides with the Black Friday and Cyber Monday online shopping sale weekend.
The discounts are marketed as a "complimentary trim upgrade", which offers the all-wheel-drive Ioniq 6 Techniq for the regular price of the Dynamiq ($71,500 plus on-road costs), and the Epiq for the regular price of the Techniq ($82,000 plus on-roads, down $1500 on its launch price).
The Dynamiq remains available at its original $71,500 plus on-road costs price – which is down $2500 on its launch price earlier this year of $74,000 plus on-roads.
With the special offer applied, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 Techniq all-wheel drive (AWD) is $2200 cheaper than the Tesla Model 3 Long Range AWD ($73,700) once the Tesla's mandatory order and vehicle shipping fees (which Hyundai includes in the RRP) are applied.
The price cuts – outside of the Black Friday sale – bring the run-out MY23 Ioniq 6 stock in line with the prices of the updated MY24 range.
The MY23 Ioniq 6 Dynamiq long-range rear-wheel drive (RWD) now matches the MY24 Ioniq 6 base long-range RWD ($71,500 plus on-roads), which is not as well equipped.
The MY23 Ioniq 6 Techniq AWD now matches its equivalent in the reshuffled MY24 range, the Dynamiq AWD ($82,000 plus on-roads) – while the MY23 Epiq matches the MY24 Epiq with digital side mirrors, which are now optional (rather than standard) for the new model year.
