L-plate hoon’s Holden V8 ute crushed after 253km/h speeding ticket

A hoon on a learner's permit – busted driving a Holden V8 ute at 253km/h – has had his vehicle crushed after authorities in South Australia wanted to set an example to other would-be speeders.

A Holden Commodore V8 ute – and the learner driver busted at 253km/h earlier this year – have been dealt a crushing blow.

The vehicle was last week crushed by authorities in South Australia to set an example to other young drivers who might be tempted to speed.

Last year South Australian authorities crushed 900 cars, out of 1500 vehicles that were seized due to dangerous driving offences over the same period.

Some cars were crushed, and some cars were sold – with the proceeds given to the Victims of Crime Compensation Fund.

Police said the vehicle was travelling at "one of the highest ever speeds that we've detected on South Australian roads."

South Australia Police Superintendent Darren Fielke told ABC News the incident was "completely unacceptable".

"This (Holden V8 ute being crushed) really puts the full stop for this particular matter here today, but it sends the message that if you're going to engage in behaviour like this, then you're going to lose your car."

About 1500 drivers in South Australia were "permanently deprived of their vehicle" last year, SA Police Minister Joe Szakacs told ABC News.

"That is a lot of cars and roughly about two-thirds of those cars were demolished," he said.
