Honda is set for a big January, with next month's Detroit Auto Show to host a new NSX concept and a new small sedan for its Acura luxury brand.
Now, Honda has confirmed it will also unveil a new Accord Coupe concept in Detroit, previewing the next-generation Accord sedan and coupe line-up.
"The Accord Coupe Concept will convey the dynamic and aggressive profile of the ninth-generation 2013 Honda Accord set to go on sale in the fall of 2012," Honda's press release reads.
A two-door Accord is nothing new. There's a coupe version of the current-generation Accord available in the US - the only country that builds the sporty two-door (its left-hand-drive configuration is why we don't have it here).
Australia's Accord range remains strictly a sedan affair, but with the carmaker chasing a more lifestyle-focused image (see CR-Z), we might just see both bodystyles of the new model make their way to Australia.
Honda has offered little else on the new Accord, although it is known that a hybrid system will figure among the sedan's powertrain options - a move that should give Honda a worthy competitor for Toyota's Hybrid Camry sedan.
"Mid-sized vehicles equipped with this system [the twin motor hybrid] are scheduled to begin production, starting with the plug-in hybrid model in 2012 and the hybrid model in 2013," Honda said.
According to Bloomberg News, the hybrid system will include a 2.0 litre petrol engine and a new version of Honda's Integrated Motor Assist technology.
