General Motors surveying current Corvette owners on electric successor

US car giant General Motors is reportedly canvassing current Corvette owners on their interest in an electric successor.

A recent survey has reportedly been circulated among Chevrolet Corvette ownership circles in the US, gauging customer interest in an electric sports car from General Motors.

The topic was raised on the MidEngineCorvetteForum.com website, where multiple owners of the current-generation C8 Corvette reported receiving invitations to provide feedback on what an electric sports car would look like, for the brand. The unnamed electric sports car was later identified as a Corvette by survey participants.

Owners surveyed described being asked about what they’d like to see in future vehicles, with questions relating to downloadable subscription services, a racetrack checklist, stealth modes, and battery optimisation for performance use. The downloadable subscription service is likely to be an ‘over-the-air’ system which could download new features to the car, for a price.

Curiously, one question alluded to a new silent-start option in this proposed electric sports car, though how that’s relevant to an already-silent electric car is unknown.

A fully-electric C9-generation Corvette is not expected from GM, though the company has announced the introduction of 30 new electric vehicles globally by 2025. While many of these will become SUV products, the possibility of electric sports cars will only become more relevant as time goes on.

Keeping in mind, this is unrelated to C8 Corvette E-Ray hybrid performance variant which is expected to use motors on the front axle and the C8’s LT2 V8 for the rear axle. This variant is expected within years to come, with early prototypes already spotted testing.
