Video: New ‘Ferrari’ movie preview released, due in Australian cinemas January 2024

A film depicting the rise of Ferrari is due to be released in Australian cinemas in January 2024.

A new teaser for the upcoming ‘Ferrari’ movie – which depicts the life of the marque’s founder in 1957 – has been released, providing another look at what we can expect from the star-studded Hollywood film.

In the two-and-a-half minute preview, a group of Ferrari race cars and competitors are seen battling in the famous Mille Miglia (1000 mile) road race in Italy, with Enzo Ferrari (portrayed by Adam Driver, of Star Wars and House of Gucci fame) talking over the sequence.

As previously reported, Driver was not allowed to drive any of the Ferraris on set, despite the on-screen fleet being largely represented by exact replicas.

The film also touches on Enzo’s personal struggles at the time, following the death of his eldest son, Alfredo or ‘Dino’, who passed away at the age of just 24 the year prior to when the movie is set.

Along with action sequences and racing scenes, the film will depict the financial woes faced by Ferrari at the time, as it had not yet become the household name we now know.

Directed by Michael Mann (Heat, Collateral), Ferrari also stars Penelope Cruz (Pirates of the Caribbean, Blow) as Enzo's wife, Laura, as well as Patrick Dempsey (Grey's Anatomy, Bridget Jones's Baby).

Dempsey – who has previously raced in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 24 Hours of Daytona, and owns an endurance racing team – was allowed to drive the replica Ferraris, though he described the experience as terrifying.

"It was quite terrifying. Driving a modern car you have a roll cage, but there was no cage with these cars," Dempsey told news outlet Reuters.
Ferrari is due to be released in Australian cinemas from 4 January 2024, following its US premiere on Christmas Day.
