End of the road in sight for the Ram 1500 TRX performance pick-up

The supercharged V8-powered Ram 1500 TRX will soon be no more, with the brand unveiling a new Final Edition variant in the US.

Ram has announced production of the 1500 TRX will conclude at the end of 2023, marking the discontinuation of Australia's most expensive – and fastest – pick-up.

Stellantis – the parent company of Ram, Dodge, and Jeep, among others – has been winding down production of its 6.2-litre supercharged V8, also introducing Final Edition models of the Dodge Challenger and Charger, with many V8 models ending with the 2023 calendar year.

The Ram TRX produces 523kW and 882Nm from its 6.2-litre supercharged V8, sending the three-tonne ute to 100km/h from a standstill in a claimed 4.5 seconds – or approximately 1.5 seconds quicker than the V6-powered Ford Ranger Raptor.

In the US, the Ram TRX Final Edition comes with carbon-fibre interior trim, a 19-speaker Harman Kardon premium sound system, a head-up display, digital rear-view mirror, 'Patina' stitching throughout, and powered front seats.

The vehicle also comes with a numbered plaque, beadlock-capable wheels finished in satin titanium, and matching satin titanium badges and decals.

However, US buyers will be paying for the privilege – with the Final Edition costing approximately $US33,000 more than the base-model TRX, or more than $AU50,000 for one of the last supercharged V8 pick-ups.

It's not clear at this stage whether the Final Edition will be made available to Australian buyers.

The price of the Ram 1500 TRX increased locally in July 2023 to $AU224,950 before on-road costs. If the Final Edition were offered here, the drive-away price could well be in excess of $300,000.

As reported in July 2023, Ram looks set to offer its 1500 pick-up with its new 3.0-litre twin-turbo 'Hurricane' six-cylinder engine when the model is updated next year.

The Hurricane engine is available as a standard-output (SO) version with 313kW and 635Nm, and a high-output (HO) version with 380kW and 678Nm.
