Drivers mocked after two beached cars get destroyed by waves

Photos of two vehicles heavily damaged by waves at a UK beach have emerged online – with some online users teasing the drivers responsible for the incident.

Council officials said they recovered the remains of the vehicles at Blackpool Beach, Lancashire – a seaside UK town approximately 43km north of Liverpool.

“We understand the vehicles became stuck in the sand and the drivers were unable to drive them off the beach before the tide came in,” a Blackpool Council spokesperson said in a media statement.

“No one was injured but it serves as a reminder as to why only authorised vehicles should access the beach.”

According to the UK publication Bristol Post, the two vehicles were damaged by "strong breakers" which reportedly capsized one vehicle on its roof and "partially washed the other out to sea".

Authorities confirmed they are in contact with the registered owners to “recover [the] costs” of cleaning up the incident.

In the photos, the Peugeot convertible can be seen with one of its rear wheels missing, and its side panels damaged with multiple dents – while its windscreen is smashed.

Additionally, the Vauxhall hatch can be seen without its bonnet – with its windows and windscreen broken and side panels scratched.

Some online users mocked the owners of the cars, with one Facebook user stating: “Fancied a free wash and a swimming lesson,” while another said, “Hopefully the fish get to have a good look around.”

Authorities have not specified if the two responsible motorists were issued a fine or penalty.
