Some Cupra prices rise in Australia – but others cut

Volkswagen-owned Spanish car maker Cupra has cut prices across four of its 10 models – but increased prices for a further four cars.

Volkswagen-owned Spanish performance-car brand Cupra has increased prices for the third time in its six months on the Australian market – but cut prices on other models by up to $1500.

Cupra has decreased prices across four models – the Formentor V SUV, and Leon VZ, VZe and VZx hot hatchbacks – by between $500 and $1500, citing "negotiati[on]" with head office in Europe.

But it has also increased prices by between $760 and $2000 on four additional models – the Ateca VZx, and the Formentor VZ, VZe and VZx – blaming "inflation, supplier cost and transport increases".

The company says the price cuts will be passed on to buyers in the queue, where they apply – and existing orders will be protected from the new price increases.

A 360-degree camera has also been added to the Leather and Power Package available on the Formentor V, VZ and VZe, accompanied by a $500 cost increase (from $2750 to $3250).

This camera was previously exclusively offered as standard equipment on the Formentor VZx, from Model Year 2023 (MY23).

Pricing for the Born electric-car and entry-level Leon V hatchback remain unchanged, as deliveries of these vehicles are yet to commence – and Leon V orders have not opened.

Cupra notes the Born electric, Leon VZe plug-in hybrid and Leon VZx petrol hatchbacks now share a $59,990 plus on-road costs nationwide RRP, but the drive-away prices of these vehicles are not the same in all states and territories.

As reported last week, Cupra Australia has received approximately 350 orders for the Born since they opened in December – however, a website mix-up has seen the company contact the first set of customers to advise a free servicing offer was applied in error, and offer a refund of their deposit.
