BMW 5-Series wagon prices revealed

Bavarian car maker details new luxury Touring range.


BMW is set to offer family practicality for those that don't want a luxury SUV. 

The German brand has revealed local pricing and specifications for the 5-Series Touring which will join the sedan variant in showrooms from October, 2017. 

The point of entry into the two-tier 5-Series Touring range kicks off with the 520d variant which is priced from $99,900 before on-road costs, which is an increase of about $6000 over the previous generation. 

Power for the 520d comes from a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel unit that produces 140kW and 400Nm and is paired with an eight-speed automatic while sipping a claimed 4.9L/100km. 

Standard equipment includes ambient lighting, DAB+ digital radio, a head-up display, silver roof rails, a 10.25-inch touchscreen with in-built navigation, parking assist with surround and panoramic view, LED headlights and wireless device charging. While an auto tailgate gives access to the 570L boot, or 1700L with the rear seats down. 

Mid-size luxury cars are a hotbed for technology and the 5-Series Touring is no different, it comes equipped with semi-autonomous driving technology that uses an array of front- and side-mounted sensors to help keep the vehicle in its lane with the driver's hands off the wheel for periods up to 30 seconds and at speeds up to 210km/h.

The oil burner comes fitted with the Luxury Line specification as standard which includes; 18-inch alloy wheels, chrome exterior highlights, black gloss B-pillar, illuminated door handles, leather sports steering wheel, leather upholstery and Luxury badging. 

However, buyers can option to have the 520d fitted with the optional M Sport package which drops the Luxury Line specification in favour of 19-inch alloy wheels, M aerodynamics kit, M Sport suspension, gloss black exterior finishes, M badging, M leather steering wheel, front sports seats, leather upholstery and trapezoidal tailpipe finishers in chrome. 

The second model in the 5-Series Touring range is the 530i which is priced from $115,500 and replaces the more expensive 535i Touring from the previous generation. 

BMW has ditched the 3.0-litre petrol unit from the 535i and instead has installed a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder unit in the brand's solo petrol offering which produces 185kW and 350Nm and is coupled with an eight-speed slushbox, while only drinking 6.5L/100km. 

Stock gear that comes on top the 520d specification includes adaptive headlights, heated front seats, 16-speaker premium stereo and a 12.3-inch digital instrument display. 

While the 520d comes standard with the Luxury Line specification the 530i comes equipped with the M Sport package, but it gains M Sport brakes and electronic damper control and different 19-inch alloy wheels.

However, buyers can option the Luxury Line pack - at no extra cost - which negates the M Sport pack and adds; different 19-inch alloy wheels, soft Nappa leather upholstery, comfort front seats, leather sports steering wheel, ventilated front seats, luxury badging, chrome exterior highlights and four-zone air conditioning. 

BMW also offer a number of optional packages.  

The first is an Innovations Pack that includes BMW's display key with remote control parking and gesture control and costs an additional $1600 and is available on both models. 

The second optional extra pack is the Comfort Pack that is only available on the 520d and comes with electronic damper control, auto high beam and heated front seats with lumbar control and costs $2700 when paired with the Luxury Line or $2100 when coupled with the M Sport pack. 

An Exclusive pack can only be optioned on a 520d with Luxury Line specification and includes 19-inch alloy wheels, Nappa leather upholstery, electronic damper control, auto high beam and heated front seats and costs $6400. 

The final optional extras pack is the 520d's $3400 Precision pack that includes a premium 16-speaker stereo, adaptive LED headlights, 12.3-inch digital instrument display and high beam assist.
