Custom-built Bentley Continental Flying Spur ute for sale again in the UK

Just two years after work on this custom Bentley ute was completed, its new owner wants to sell the bespoke vehicle – with a £149,950 ($AU300,000) price tag.

A unique Bentley ute – which was built over an 18-month period – has been listed for sale in the UK, just two years after its current owner took delivery of the custom creation.

Uncovered by Drive in August 2021, UK custom car building company DC Customs set about converting a 2005 Bentley Continental Flying Spur into a ute from early-2020.

The build process included removing part of the sedan’s roof, welding its rear doors shut and fabricating a custom hand-crafted tray, which was later finished with teak to retain the Bentley’s luxury image.

After 18 months, the Bentley Flying Spur pick-up was eventually delivered to its new owner who had planned to use it as their daily driver.

Fast-forward another two years and it has now come up for sale on UK used-car platform Pistonheads, listed for £149,950 – or almost $300,000 in Australian currency.

The price is almost five-times higher than similar year Bentley Continental Fly Spurs on the website which haven’t been modified – though it rivals a number of second-hand HSV Maloo GTS-Rs being sold on various platforms in Australia.

According to the listing, the Bentley’s owner who commissioned the ute paid approximately £120,000 ($AU240,000) for the conversion – an amount which could now buy four examples of the unmodified sedan.

Unlike most performance Australian utes such as the Holden Commodore SS and the Ford Falcon XR8 – plus their more aggressive siblings from HSV and FPV – the Bentley does not use a V8 engine, rather a twin-turbo W12 (made from two narrow-angle V6/VR6 engines mounted together).

After it was completed, the Bentley Continental Flying Spur was sent to a speed shop and tuned to produce almost 435kW, with more than 860Nm going to all four wheels.

This Bentley is not the only luxury European car to be turned into a ute – professional Australian golfer Stuart Appleby had his BMW M5 converted into a semi-commercial vehicle in the late-2000s, even taking it to the famous Deni Ute Muster.
