Be your own Bond villain: Ex-Spectre Land Rover Defender SVX for sale

Bond’s Aston might be getting all the hype, but we all know the villains get the best cars – and now you can too, for a price…

Where do they get those wonderful toys?

Like me, I’m sure you’ve wondered just how silver screen henchmen outfit themselves in fleets of bespoke vehicles. Off the shelf is never good enough for these machine gun-toting disposable characters, and now you can roll to school drop-off with the best of them, in a 2011 Land Rover Defender SVX ‘Spectre’ double-cab pick-up.

Produced by Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations team and tuned by off-road racing firm Bowler, seven SVX Concept Defender utes were produced for the 24th Bond instalment, 2015's Spectre.

Finished in Santorini Black paint, the SVX is fitted with 37-inch (940mm) all-terrain tyres, beadlock wheels, new Bilstein off-road dampers and a full roll cage. The 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine has received a mild tune too, lifting power from a modest 90kW to a more ‘villainous’ 138kW.

There’s even a neat hydraulic handbrake to help nab a car spot outside the Botanical on a pleasant Friday evening…

Offered for sale in the UK by specialist dealer Tom Hartley Jnr, this particular Spectre Defender was used in driving scenes and includes all the documentation to support its use. It has been in private hands since filming ended, and is even registered (despite being left-hand drive).

When new, a crew-cab Defender cost $54,190, but you’ll need all the resources of SPECTRE (Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion) to help add this one to your hollowed out volcano fortress, as it is asking £265,000 or around $AU500,000.

Just how a shadowy organisation manages to service a fleet of these speaks well to their business model.

Land Rover has been involved with the new James Bond movie, with the new Land Rover Defender featuring in No Time To Die, and a special ‘Bond Edition’ V8 variant offered for sale overseas.
