Audi will unveil a new evolution of its 2010 Quattro coupe concept at September's Frankfurt Motor Show, according to reports out of Germany this week.
Plans for a production version of the earlier concept were reported binned in favour of a new compact SUV to rival the Range Rover Evoque, inspired by the 2012 Crosslane concept.
Now, German paper Auto Zeitung reports that Audi is at last planning to produce a limited-edition homage to the legendary Sport Quattro, and September's concept is expected to preview the new model.
The report claims the special new model will utilise the MLB/MLP platform that underpins the A5 and other Audi models, while advanced construction materials and methods will cut weight to around 1250kg.
Audi's 4.0 litre twin-turbo V8 is expected to provide motivation, with around 480kW sent to the all-wheel-drive system through a seven-speed dual-clutch auto.
A very supercar 0-100km/h time of around 3.4 seconds is understood to be the goal of the Quattro's engineering team.
If this report is accurate, watch for details to surface in the coming weeks.
