Around the tracks: Citroen’s modular autonomous skate

When we’re not creating it ourselves, the Drive team spends a lot of time finding and consuming motoring content from all over the world.

Here’s a handful of the photos, articles, videos or social media posts that most caught our eye last week. Some of them are brand new, others have been online for a while.

Citroën has created an autonomous skate like no other. The car maker teamed up with hospitality company Accor and advertising company JCDecaux, calling the creation the 'Urban Collectif'.

The skateboard-like creation is a fully-autonomous platform with interchangeable pods – a more sustainable option for cross-city journeys. The unit incorporates Goodyear tyres with hydraulic cushions, and electric motors allowing 360-degree manoeuvrability.

There are currently three different pod designs in the range: the Sofitel En Voyage, Pullman Power Fitness and JCDecaux. All look high end and are said to offer a premium experience in the cabin.

Perhaps the standout pod is the Pullman Power Fitness. Made in collaboration with the Pullman Hotel, it gives passengers the opportunity to exercise on their travels with a rower and bike fitted in the cabin. We look forward to seeing the price!

The new Toyota Tundra has been unveiled for the 2022 NASCAR Camping World Truck series. The truck is roughly similar in appearance to the road-going Tundra TRD Pro revealed last week, but is in fact based around a competition-specific chassis with a single-cab, rather than dual-cab body.

Toyota is hoping that this new-look vehicle will help it achieve another championship victory, adding to its eight driver and 11 manufacturer titles.

The truck will debut on track around the Daytona circuit in February 2022. Toyota is the only manufacturer campaigning three different body types for NASCAR’s top three series in the 2022 season. The production Toyota Tundra TRD Pro is set to hit showrooms in the US later this year.

Saudi Arabia is gearing up for its very first Formula One race, set to take place in December this year. The promoter of the upcoming event is celebrating early and in a big way, so much so that it recruited a handful of expert Lego builders for this unique replica.

Using more than 500,000 bricks the model is now considered the largest F1 replica in history, a record previously set by a Lego Ferrari created back in 2019.

The final bright green brick was laid by Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation (SAMF) chairman on the country's national day.

If you're into off-roading then look no further – this recreational tank is up for grabs at auction. Known as the Ripsaw EV3-F4, the extreme-looking tank was produced by firm Howe & Howe. 

The tank packs a modified 6.6-litre Duramax turbo-diesel V8 used in General Motors full-size pick-ups, with its exterior a high-strength tubular steel exoskeleton. It's not short of power, producing 595kW and a whopping 2033Nm. The EV3-F4 is capable travelling of at up to 96km/h and offers 508mm of ground clearance.

The cabin is suspended by air springs, so that forces encountered by the tracks aren’t felt inside. Exterior features include LED lights, a heated windscreen, an infrared light bar, and a remote spotlight. This all comes at a hefty price with the tank up for auction through Hemmings for just over $AU585,000.

Electric bike manufacturer Super73 has produced a new creation inspired by a Porsche 935 race car that won Le Mans. The unique electric bike is based off the existing SUPER73-S2 with the manufacturer taking influence from a specific model entered by Kremer Racing that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans event in 1979.

The colours used on the bike pay tribute to livery of the Le Mans winning car. It may not go fast like the Porsche it's inspired by, but the one-off two-wheeler has plenty of life in it, packing a 960-watt powertrain and an electric motor that can propel it to 25km/h. Unfortunately, only one has been manufactured and the company isn't making any more available to purchase.
