2025 GMC Yukon V8 teased ahead of Australian launch

General Motors has shown the first official image of its super-sized eight-seat SUV which will join the local GMSV line-up.

The first official teaser image of the 2025 GMC Yukon has been released by General Motors (GM) ahead of its arrival in GMSV (General Motors Specialty Vehicles) dealers across Australia.

While the updated 2025 GMC Yukon has been spotted testing, this is the first look at the finished production vehicle – or at least part of it – a facelift of the existing fifth-generation Yukon introduced in North America in 2021.

The teaser shows the front of the eight-seat vehicle – which is bigger than a Toyota LandCruiser – in ‘AT4’ trim level, the middle spec level of a five-tier Yukon line-up in US showrooms.

Due in Australia in early 2025, local showrooms will not include the AT4, with current plans seeing a single model introduced in ‘Denali’ trim, one step down from the ‘Denali Ultimate’ flagship sold in the US.

The black grille surround in the teaser is consistent with the current AT4 trim level sold in the US, with the Denali featuring a silver and chrome surround and detailing.

The grille surround now extends to split the updated Yukon’s headlight, too, a feature already seen in Yukon spy images likely to carry across the entire line-up.

Previous spy images have also shown new wheels of up to 24 inches in diameter and revealed the updated Yukon’s cabin will bring a Tesla-style portrait-oriented centre touchscreen and digital instrument cluster.

The Yukon shares its platform with the Chevrolet Silverado pick-up sold by GMSV in Australia and received equipment upgrades for the 2024 model year after a mid-year facelift in 2023.

Like the Silverado, the Yukon will be remanufactured from left- to right-hand drive at Walkinshaw Automotive Group in Melbourne.

Models from GMC sit above Chevrolet but below Cadillac in the hierarchy of General Motors, with Cadillac set to return to Australia in 2024 as an electric-vehicle-only brand starting with the 2025 Lyriq electric SUV in the second half of the year.

Pricing and specification for the Australian Yukon is yet to be confirmed, but it’s expected to be powered by the same ‘L87’ 313kW/624Nm 6.2-litre V8 petrol engine and 10-speed automatic offered locally in the Silverado.

A starting price of $150,000 could be on the cards given the $US82,000 ($AU126,000) US price for the Denali version in North America when optioned with the V8 engine and four-wheel drive, before import taxes and on-road costs are considered.

As well as Australia, the 2025 GMC Yukon will also be sold in New Zealand and China for the first time.
