  • Claimed 60km of electric driving range
  • Priced from $64,990 plus on-road costs

The 2023 Peugeot 308 GT Sport Plug-in Hybrid hatchback has arrived in Australia, priced from $64,990 plus on-road costs.

The plug-in hybrid is the flagship of Peugeot's small-car range in Australia, and is the most expensive 308 ever sold in this country, commanding a $16,000 premium over an equivalent petrol variant launched late last year.

It is Peugeot Australia's third plug-in hybrid, following the 3008 GT Sport SUV and 508 GT Fastback sedan launched last year.

Powering the 308 GT Sport Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) – available in hatchback form only – is a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with 132kW/250Nm, an 81kW/250Nm electric motor, and a 12.4kWh battery pack.

Combined outputs are 165kW and 360Nm, sent to the front wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission – derived from the petrol 308's gearbox, but with the torque converter unit replaced by a clutch pack.

The PHEV is the most powerful version in the range, as there will not be a new 308 GTi hot hatch for this generation – and Peugeot in Europe has ruled out a hybrid 308 hot hatch wearing its Peugeot Sport Engineered badge.

Peugeot claims a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 7.5 seconds – down from 9.7 seconds in the 96kW/230Nm 1.2-litre petrol version.

Electric-only driving range is claimed at 60 kilometres on Europe's WLTP lab-test cycle – with claimed fuel economy in lenient lab testing of 1.3L/100km – while a full battery charge can be achieved in 3.5 hours on a 3.7kW wallbox.

Standard features match the petrol-powered 308 GT Premium hatch, with a 10-inch touchscreen, 10-inch digital instrument cluster, 18-inch wheels, matrix LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof, and wireless phone charging.

There is also nappa leather seat upholstery, power-adjustable front seats with heating and massaging, a heated leather steering wheel, 10-speaker Focal premium stereo, 360-degree camera, and a full suite of advanced safety technology.

The 308 PHEV is covered by a five-year/unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty, and a battery warranty that guarantees at least 70 per cent of remaining battery capacity after eight years or 160,000km of driving.
