The updated 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander is due in Australian showrooms next year, with additional safety features, new standard equipment, and price rises between $250 and $1000.

Mitsubishi’s second update to the Outlander since the current model's launch last November has coincided with a $250 price increase for all variants bar the top-of-the-range Exceed grades, which are now $1000 more expensive.

The 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander ES is priced from $36,240 plus on-road costs in two-wheel-drive five-seater trim.

All ES variants are now equipped with rear autonomous emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert, auto high beam and auto hold (with last memory function) as standard.

Despite the price rise, Mitsubishi has removed technology from the Outlander ES, with an 8.0-inch infotainment screen now standard – replacing the existing 9.0-inch display.

The new system also forgoes wireless Apple CarPlay, reverting to wired-only connections for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

The Outlander ES is available as a five- or seven-seater – but the three-row variant is now available only to fleets, rather than private buyers.

The Mitsubishi Outlander LS and Aspire are unchanged for 2023, although a new ‘LS Black Edition’ variant will slot in between the two existing grades.

Based on the Outlander LS two-wheel drive, the Black Edition is fitted with 20-inch black alloy wheels, black door mirrors, black lower front and rear bumpers, a black grille and black B- and C-pillars.

Inside, the interior gains black front headlining, a laser-etched gear shift panel, and suede seat upholstery with synthetic leather bolsters.

The flagship Mitsubishi Outlander Exceed and Exceed Tourer have received the biggest equipment upgrades for 2023.

A semi-autonomous driving system will debut on the 2023 Outlander Exceed and Exceed Tourer, adding traffic jam assist to the existing adaptive cruise control, as well as speed limit assist (with traffic sign recognition) and an improved lane-keep assist system (activated when driving at more than 60km/h).

According to Mitsubishi, the Outlander Exceed’s newly-added heated steering wheel is fitted with touch sensors which will disengage the assisted driving system if the driver’s grip is not detected.

Additional equipment for the Outlander Exceed Tourer includes rear seat heating as standard and new two-tone exterior paint options.

The Mitsubishi Outlander – excluding the plug-in hybrid – will continue to be powered by a 2.5-litre non-turbo four-cylinder petrol engine, developing 135kW and 245Nm. Drive is sent to all four wheels through a CVT automatic transmission.

Mitsubishi claims the Outlander consumes 7.5L/100km of fuel in two-wheel-drive, five-seater trim, while the seven-seat all-wheel-drive models increase this figure up to 8.1L/100km.

The 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander is scheduled to arrive in Australian showrooms in January.
