The 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQB has arrived in Australian showrooms, with the German car maker opening its order books for its latest electric car, priced from $87,800 before on-road costs.
Revealed in April 2021, the EQB is Mercedes-Benz's third electric car to launch in Australia after the EQA and EQC arrived in 2020 and 2021 respectively.
Based on the design and platform of the petrol-powered Mercedes-Benz GLB, the EQB is available to Australian buyers in two variants – the $87,800 plus on-road costs EQB250, and the $106,700 plus on-road costs EQB350 4Matic.
A 66.5kWh battery is standard across the EQB range, capable of AC home charging at up to 11kW, or up to 100kW while DC fast charging at a public station.
The single-motor, front-wheel-drive EQB250 produces 140kW and 385Nm, quoting a claimed driving range of up to 371 kilometres on Europe's WLTP test cycle.
The dual-motor, all-wheel-drive EQB350 4Matic develops a combined output of 215kW and 520Nm, allowing for a zero to 100km/h time of 6.2 seconds. The extra power comes at the compromise of less driving range, reduced to a claimed 360km.
While a five-seat layout is standard across the model range, EQB250 buyers can add a third row of seats for an additional $2900, turning the SUV into Australia's first seven-seat electric car under $100,000.
The five-seat EQB claims a boot capacity of 495 litres with the second row in use, increasing to 1710 litres when folded flat.
Boot space drops to 110 litres in the three-row EQB when all rows of seats are up, although this is increased to 465 litres and 1620 litres when the third- and second-row are stowed, respectively.
These figures are slightly lower than in the five-seater, due to the space occupied by the folded third row.
Standard interior equipment for the EQB line-up includes a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, dual-zone climate control and a suite of safety systems.
A limited-run Edition 1 package can also be ordered for both variants of the EQB – while stocks last – giving the electric SUV a handful of AMG-inspired exterior design elements, as well as backlit interior trim and blue stitching on the seats and doors.
