2023 Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato set for December reveal

The high-riding Huracan Sterrato is due to be revealed early next month, marking the final debut of a non-electrified Lamborghini.

Covers and camouflage will come off the high-riding Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato for the first time next month, signalling the beginning of the end for the Italian supercar-maker’s purely petrol-powered engines.

Lamborghini has confirmed the Huracan Sterrato – an off-road variant of the low-riding supercar – will be revealed between December 1 and 3 at the 2022 Art Basel fair in Miami, Florida.

The Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato was most recently teased in July 2022, wearing camouflage, wheel arch flares, bumper-mounted light bars, and a higher-riding suspension setup.

The Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato will continue to be powered by a 5.2-litre, naturally-aspirated V10 petrol engine which produces up to 470kW and 565Nm in the supercar’s STO grades.

As previously reported, the Huracan Sterrato is set to be Lamborghini’s final new model to be powered by a purely petrol engine – with all subsequent models going hybrid or electric.

In September 2022, the final V12-powered Lamborghini Aventador rolled off the line at the Sant'Agata Bolognese factory, with the Huracan’s V10 set to follow suit when production of the smaller supercar wraps up.

Lamborghini has said the Aventador’s successor will launch next year with a plug-in hybrid petrol engine – although its number of cylinders and configuration are yet to be confirmed.

The Lamborghini Huracan’s replacement is expected to be powered by a 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V8 with a unique ‘axial flux’ hybrid system, which sandwiches an electric motor between the engine block and transmission.

The 5.2-litre V10 in the Huracan will be Lamborghini's final non-hybrid or electric engine

Lamborghini is due to launch its first electric car in 2025 – 11 years before the company has to comply with the European Union’s ban of petrol and diesel engines.

While bigger car companies must ditch their fossil-fuelled cars by 2035, Lamborghini and other companies which make less than 10,000 vehicles annually have until 2036 to make the necessary changes.

A plug-in hybrid variant of the Lamborghini Urus SUV is also set to be launched next year, electrifying the Italian car-maker’s most popular nameplate in Australia and across the globe.

Between January and October 2022, Lamborghini reported 151 cars as sold in Australia – 83 of which were its Urus SUV.

The global popularity of the Urus continues to grow, with Lamborghini claiming it delivered 4834 examples to customers worldwide between January and September this year, its most successful nine-month period since the model was launched in 2018.
