2022 Mazda 3, CX-30 updated for Australia with new mild-hybrid option
Mazda's small car and SUV ranges gain new features and a new engine option for 2022, though prices are yet to be confirmed.
Mazda Australia has announced a slew of changes to its 2022 Mazda 3 and 2022 Mazda CX-30 ranges, with both line-ups now available to "pre-order" – though pricing is yet to be announced.
The Mazda 3 and CX-30 updates are led by the addition of new G20e Evolve M Hybrid grades, powered by the 2.0-litre non-turbo four-cylinder petrol engine and 24-volt mild-hybrid system debuted in Mazda's funky MX-30 small SUV, sending 114kW and 200Nm to the front wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission.
Based on the Evolve grade, the new G20e variants build on the entry-level Pure variants advanced keyless entry, an auto-dimming driver's side mirror with position memory and reverse tilt functionality (with the latter pair available on both driver and passenger mirrors in the Mazda3) and a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat with two-position memory.
Also included in the new G20e Evolve variants is the Vision Technology package – which includes a 360-degree camera, Cruising & Traffic Support, driver monitoring, front cross-traffic alert and front parking sensors.
Replacing the Mazda 3 G25 Evolve variant is a new G25 Evolve SP grade, which retains the old Evolve's features and adds black 18-inch alloy wheels, black mirror caps, a black front grille and black cloth seats with red accents.
Meanwhile, the CX-30 Touring can now be had in Touring SP Vision Technology form, which adds (over the standard Touring) burgundy leather upholstery, black dashboard and door card accents, black metallic 18-inch alloy wheels, and black side mirror caps.
The Touring SP is available with both engine options: a 114kW/200Nm 2.0-litre 'G20' non-turbo four-cylinder petrol engine with a six-speed automatic and front-wheel drive only, or a 139kW/252Nm 2.5-litre non-turbo four-cylinder petrol engine with a six-speed automatic and a choice of front- or all-wheel drive.
Pricing for all new models is yet to be announced – though for variants now offering the Vision Technology package as standard, expect increases of over $1000.
Other updates include the addition of a leather steering wheel and gear selector for Pure variants of the Mazda 3 and CX-30, a new electric tilt and slide glass sunroof for the CX-30 G20 Astina, and a selection of improvements for the Mazda 3 X20 Astina, namely the addition of an e-SkyActiv X badge on the tailgate, Sky-X badges on the front quarterpanels, and "engine sound and ride comfort" updates (though there's no mention of the 8kW/16Nm power bump offered overseas).
The manual transmission option has been deleted from the Mazda 3 X20 Astina, along with all Mazda 3 hatch and sedan models when the Vision Technology package is optioned.
A new Platinum Quartz Metallic colour has been added across both ranges. Pure White leather can be had with all exterior colours on the CX-30 G20 and G25 Astina, with the same true for burgundy and white leather colours on all Mazda 3 Astina variants (bar the X20 sedan, where Pure White is no longer available). Other colours have also been added, tweaked or discontinued.
The 2022 Mazda 3 and 2022 Mazda CX-30 ranges are now available to pre-order. Stay tuned to Drive for full pricing details once they're announced in the coming weeks.
