  • Three variants on offer, with Summit Reserve luxury flagship
  • Seven seats for the first time
  • Priced from $82,250 before on-road costs

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L seven-seater will arrive in Australia in mid-2022, priced from $82,250 before on-road costs.

While the price of entry into a new Grand Cherokee has increased by more than $20,000 for 2022 (from $60,450 to $82,250) the new Grand Cherokee L is the first three-row model in the history of Jeep's familiar nameplate (rather than five seats only) – and is significantly larger and offers more technology than the decade-old model that precedes it.

A new-generation five-seat model – with the same technology and styling as the new seven-seat L – will arrive in Australia later this year, with the option of 4xe plug-in hybrid power.

The Grand Cherokee L will launch with a choice of three variants: the Night Eagle ($82,250 before on-road costs), Limited ($87,950), and Summit Reserve – which at $115,450 becomes the second Grand Cherokee sold in Australia to crest $100,000, alongside the supercharged V8 Trackhawk. without an SRT badge.

All models are powered by a familiar 3.6-litre 'Pentastar' non-turbo petrol V6, sending 210kW and 344Nm to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. The flagship Summit Reserve adds a more advanced four-wheel-drive system with a low-range transfer case.

As reported previously, diesel power will not be available with the latest Grand Cherokee generation – while there's no sign of the 5.7-litre petrol V8 available in the US.

Standard features on the entry-level Night Eagle include an 8.4-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and satellite navigation, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, electric front seats, LED headlights, leather trim, 20-inch alloy wheels, and a full suite of active safety features.

The mid-spec Limited adds a larger 10.1-inch touchscreen, upgraded Capri leather seats, a nine-speaker sound system and more, while the flagship Summit Reserve scores niceties including Palermo leather, 21-inch wheels, a McIntosh sound system, front-seat ventilation and massaging, four-zone climate control and air suspension.

A full list of standard equipment – in addition to the option packages available – is included at the bottom of this story.

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L is due in Australian showrooms in mid-2022.
